The Department of Environmental Quality and Urban Appearance is responsible for implementing the Mayor’s policy to provide a better quality of life for the city’s residents and visitors. It focuses on the care and maintenance of green spaces, urban maintenance, urban sanitation, and public health. The Department integrates and develops sustainability and energy efficiency systems for future generations in its work.
The Operations, Street Lighting Maintenance, Horticulture, Sanitation and Veterinary Departments are responsible for implementing the policy.
The department’s responsibilities include:
- Maintain the appearance of public spaces and the city landscape.
- Recycle waste and increasing recycling rates.
- Water management in public gardens.
- Raise public health awareness and address sanitary hazards.
- Preserve and maintain green landscapes in public spaces.
- Increase residents’ sense of personal safety while raising awareness of sustainability and energy efficiency.
- Raise public health awareness and address sanitation hazards.
- Maintain and operate public spaces.
- Maintain playground equipment in public gardens while maintaining continuity of standards.
